ICON Announces Jared Kuhn as Vice President of Real Estate Development and Sales
Veteran of Ryan Companies and Hines Joins Large Scale Robotics and AI Construction Technology Pioneer to Support Rapid Scaling of Single and Multi-story Home Developments Across the World
AUSTIN, TX, June 13, 2024 -- ICON, the construction technologies company pioneering large scale 3D printing, today announced that Jared Kuhn has joined the company as vice president of real estate development and sales. In the newly created role, Kuhn will oversee new developer partnerships and construction projects in ICON’s rapidly growing private sector business. He will report to ICON’s COO, Graeme Waitzkin and will be based in Austin, Texas.
Graeme Waitzkin, COO, ICON said, “Jared is a deeply experienced real estate professional with a history of complex deal making. This newly created role is vital to supporting ICON’s growth. With Jared’s leadership, ICON can diversify our project pipeline and grow ICON’s initiatives to connect with like-minded developers and our community of current and future ICON homeowners.
Kuhn brings considerable industry experience as former executive vice president at Ryan Companies where he led the company’s multifamily division. As lead executive for Ryan’s multifamily clients and equity partners, Kuhn’s portfolio included ATX Tower, a 58-story, 368-unit apartment building in downtown Austin; 4th and Park, a 25-story, 350-unit apartment building in downtown Minneapolis, MN; Renata a 502-unit multifamily community in Lakewood Ranch, FL; The Avalyn, a 480-unit multifamily community in San Diego; and Vyne on Haven, a 200-unit multifamily community in Chicago, IL.
Prior to Ryan Companies, Kuhn was a developer at Hines, Soave Enterprises and Titan Development where he worked on a wide range of asset types in addition to multifamily such as senior living communities, luxury condominiums, retail, office, hotel and master planned communities.
Kuhn holds a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Columbia University, a Bachelors of Arts from Michigan State University and is an active member of the National Multi-housing Council, Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Home Builders.
“Transforming the way we build with robotics and AI is an exciting future for the built environment and a necessary disruption to meet expected housing needs,” said Kuhn. “Joining the ICON team to help scale the delivery of tens of thousands of homes around the world is an unparalleled opportunity to revolutionize the construction industry and address the global housing crisis head-on ”
ICON is nearing completion of the largest community of 3D-printed homes in the world just outside of Austin alongside one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, Lennar. The 100-home community codesigned by BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group illustrates that construction-scale 3D printing not only delivers higher-quality homes faster and more affordably, but can change the way entire communities are built for the better.
Additionally in spring 2024, ICON unveiled during its technology showcase event during SXSW a new suite of products and technologies designed to further automate construction including a radical new robotic printer that enables multi-story construction, a new low-carbon building material, a digital catalog for residential architecture with more than 60 ready-to-build home designs, and an AI Architect™ for home design and construction. ICON believes that together these technologies make its construction technology platform a faster, more sustainable way to build high-quality housing affordably around the world.
ICON has completed disaster resilient housing along the Gulf Coast, barracks for women and men who serve in the U.S. Army, innovation centers for the Air Force and Texas Military Department and additional homes for those who have experienced chronic homelessness. ICON recently launched Initiative 99, a global architecture competition aimed at designing accessible, beautiful and dignified homes that can be built for under $99,000. The company will break ground on numerous projects over the next year across residential, social affordable housing, public sector and hospitality including a 60+ acre community development in Marfa, TX with visionary Liz Lambert featuring housing, hospitality amenities and the first 3D-printed hotel.
ICON continues to set new standards for delivering resilient, dignified housing at high-speed and lower cost. Raising $451 million to date in funding, ICON has delivered communities of 3D-printed homes in the U.S. and internationally and forged partnerships with world-renowned architects, builders and housing organizations missionally aligned to shift the paradigm of homebuilding. In fall 2022, ICON was awarded $57.2 million from NASA to develop a lunar surface construction system that will target humanity’s first-ever construction on another planetary body.
